Pupils and teachers at Malbank School and Sixth Form College celebrated when they were officially welcomed in to London 2012's Get Set network, in recognition of their commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic values.

The school has used the Olympic values to drive a range of student leadership programmes and curriculum projects including a deep learning Olympic day with the whole of Year 11.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) awarded the Welsh Row school and plaque and certificate to acknowledge their involvement in the London 2012 education programme.

Geoff Thompson MBE, five times World Karate Champion and executive chairman of the Youth Charter who presented the Malbank School and Sixth Form College with the plaque and certificate, said: “Malbank students are excellent examples of how London 2012 is helping to spark young people's imagination and inspiring them to get involved.

“They have clearly demonstrated that London 2012's education programme extends far beyond sport and I hope they will motivate other young people to join their journey.”

Sebastian Coe, chairman of LOCOG, said: “When London won the right to host the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, we made a clear promise to use the power of the 2012 Games to inspire young people.

“I am proud to welcome Malbank School and Sixth Form College in to the Get Set network for their exciting work around the Olympic Values of friendship, excellence and respect and the Paralympic Values of inspiration, courage, determination and equality.”

Malbank headteacher, Jeannette Walker said: “We are delighted in our 450th year to be one of the first schools in the country to be awarded the Inspire Mark.

“We have lots of exciting projects planned between now and the Olympics to make sure that our students have experiences to remember.” More>>

450 Year Anniversary

We are celebrating 450 years of Malbank School in Nantwich. Malbank can trace its history back to 1560 at which time Queen Elizabeth I was on the throne. The original school was Nantwich Grammar which was next to St Mary’s Church. In 1860 the school combined with Acton Grammar and moved to the old school building which can still be seen further along Welsh Row. Nantwich and Acton Grammar School or NAGS moved to its present site in 1921.

The horses on the school coat of arms were added purely because of the NAGS acronym. More>>
